Default Beast mastery general ranger build with a bow

I'm really interested in using a BM build for a general PvE ranger, but I haven't got any idea how it should look like - combined ranged + pet dps, only pet dps, something different? I've searched around, PvXwiki has no general BM suggestions and most given builds around are already outdated.

Does anyone still use an effective BM build and how does it look like?

you could use the pet as dps and take awesome bow skills like distracting and savage shot.

I prefer a full beastmaster build myself, with no weapon skills. All points in Beast Mastery and Expertise. Preferred weapon is a +20e staff (Insightful staff of Fortitude with a Hale & Hearty inscription).

Use Enraged Lunge or Strike as One as the elite. Call of Haste (or Feral Aggression) and Call of Protection to buff the pet's speed and defense. Predator's Pounce for damage and to keep the pet's health up. Fill in with other damage and/or buffing skills of choice.

You will not usually have an energy problem with this setup, but will be able to spam pet attacks easily so just about every hit is under an attack skill. However, some condition-causing skill (Poisonous Bite or Feral Lunge) plus Scavenger's Strike can be useful anyway.

Otyugh's Cry can be handy, particularly when going up against rangers with blocking skills. Brutal Strike is a nice finisher.

You can also consider reducing Expertise to 11+1 and throwing some points into a secondary with good buffs for pets (Strength of Honor, Judge's Insight, Splinter Weapon, paragon shouts, etc.) or use Great Dwarf Weapon on the pet.

enraged lunge for the elite definitely. hard hits+deep wound every 5secs ftw. otyugh's cry is an awesome one to have too. the extra armor increases survivability ALOT and no blockage=always constant dps. call of haste too for perma 33% movement and attack buff on ur pet. maybe call of protection. it combined with otyugh's = uber pet tankage. poisonus bite+scavenger strike if u need some e-management

You could run Volley + Splinter on a Hero. Volley isn't the damage dealing skill here, so you really don't need a high Marks investment. It would also enable you to run SY! which is kinda what you want physicals to be doing.
I also ran a BM with AP as my elite. AP enabled me to spam YMLD!, EVAS and FH while the instant activation nature of the beastmaster skills enabled me to add some nice damage without having to waste time on them. (Out of the BM line I ran Scavanger's (which combined with AP is just INSANE e-managemnet), Brutal (damage in the 100s), Call of Haste and Comfort.) It probably works better than a pure BM-build.
